With over 30 miles of trails within the Domain and endless stretches of roads that climb and wind through the Cumberland Plateau, our hotel in Sewanee, TN serves as a terrific home base for both mountain biking and road cycling enthusiasts.

Rock Climbing

Most climbing sites are a short walk or bike ride from central campus. Climbs range from 35 to 80 feet in height and include vertical slabs and classic steep south overhangs. More than 50 established routes are dominantly top rope climbs, but several sport routes and trad routes also exist. Grades range from 5.4 to 5.12 d.

Canoeing & Kayaking

The University of the South has 13 lakes and several local rivers in the Ocoee, Hiwassee and the Nantahala.  Many of these waterways afford opportunities for whitewater, a lazy paddle and everything inbetween.

Sewanee and the surrounding region is home to many amazing caves. Boasting the most caves than anywhere else in the United States, countless caving opportunities await the adventurous. On campus there are at least 10 caves with traversable passage. Many more are just a short drive away from our Sewanee lodging.
